Welcome to Lee

Lee is a rural Strafford County town just west of Durham and the University of New Hampshire, drained by the Lamprey, North and Oyster rivers. First settled in 1657 as part of the early Dover township, it was chartered in 1766 by Governor Benning Wentworth and named for General Charles Lee. Lee NH real estate lies entirely within the Piscataqua River coastal watershed, and the town received its own ZIP code, 03861, in 2007.

Living in Lee, NH

Farms and open land shape the town, and its best-known landmarks are spread across it rather than packed into a village. Wheelwright Pond, named for the Reverend John Wheelwright, founder of Exeter, was the scene of a 1690 battle in King William's War. Bedrock Gardens is a destination for garden visitors, and DeMeritt Hill Farm hosts Haunted Overload, winner of ABC's Great Halloween Fright Fight in 2014. Lee USA Speedway is a short-track oval that has hosted NASCAR events, and Little River Park has a basketball court, soccer field and baseball diamond. The Lee Historical Society and Museum keeps the town's records and artifacts. Lee was part of Durham until 1766, and it still shares the Oyster River Cooperative School District with Durham and Madbury. The highest ground is an unnamed 272-foot hill southwest of the town center.
