Living in Dalton, NH

Dalton is a largely rural town: about 82 percent of its land is undeveloped farm, forest or unproductive land, and Dalton Mountain, at 2,150 feet, is its highest point. Its best-known spot is Forest Lake State Park on Forest Lake Road, created in 1935 as one of New Hampshire's ten original state parks. The 397-acre park has a 200-foot sandy beach on Forest Lake, which straddles the Whitefield line, and is used for swimming, picnicking, mountain biking, fishing and boating; car-top boats are carried a few hundred feet from the parking area, and the nearest ramp is on Newell Lane. The town's history is tied to its neighbors: it was part of the Apthorp township until 1784, when Apthorp was split into Littleton and Dalton.
