Welcome to Marlborough

Marlborough is a compact Cheshire County town of about 20.7 square miles east of Keene, where NH Routes 101 and 124 meet in the main village. Roxbury, Harrisville, Dublin, Jaffrey, Troy, Swanzey and Keene surround it. Minnewawa Brook flows west through town toward the Ashuelot River. Marlborough was once a center of the granite trade, and Marlborough NH real estate also sits close to the Kensan-Devan Wildlife Sanctuary at Meetinghouse Pond.

Living in Marlborough, NH

The main settlement grew up at the junction of Routes 101 and 124, and Minnewawa Brook, a westward-flowing tributary of the Ashuelot, drains the town into the Connecticut River watershed. Bigelow Hill, near the southeastern corner, reaches 1,516 feet on its side, the highest elevation in town. The Kensan-Devan Wildlife Sanctuary protects land at Meetinghouse Pond. Granite from Marlborough quarries went into buildings in Boston and at the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, Massachusetts, and locally into the Frost Free Library. Blankets and wooden-ware, including toys, were made here too. First granted in 1752 as Monadnock No. 5 and later called Oxford and New Marlborough, the town was incorporated as Marlborough in 1776, named after Marlborough, Massachusetts, home of many settlers. In 1815 land was set off from it to form Troy.
