Welcome to Danville

Danville is a small Rockingham County town between Fremont, Kingston, Hampstead and Sandown, crossed by NH Route 111 in the south and Route 111A along Main Street. It began as Hawke, the western part of the old Kingstown parish, and became its own parish in 1760 before voters renamed it Danville in 1836. Danville NH real estate covers about 11.8 square miles of former farm and mill country, with Rock Rimmon Hill on the eastern border.

Living in Danville, NH

Settlers in western Kingstown built their own Old Meeting House in 1755 because the parish meeting house was so far away, and five years later the governor granted their petition to form Hawke, named for British Admiral Edward Hawke. Through the 1800s farms here were supplemented by sawmills, cooperages, blacksmith shops and home shoe shops, with casks and barrels hauled to Newburyport, Gloucester and Salem and shoes stitched for the factories of Haverhill. The town hall stands on Main Street, which is also NH 111A, running north from Route 111 to the Fremont line. Rock Rimmon Hill tops 350 feet on the eastern edge, and the southern two-thirds of town drains to the Merrimack while the north drains toward the coast. Students attend Danville Elementary School and the Timberlane Regional middle and high schools.
