Living in Lempster, NH

East Lempster sits where Route 10 meets the Second New Hampshire Turnpike, and Lempster village lies about 2 miles west along the turnpike. Route 10 links the town to Goshen and Newport to the north and to Marlow, Gilsum and Keene to the south. Bean Mountain, a knob on the north-south ridge of Lempster Mountain in the eastern part of town, is the highest point at 2,326 feet. Its 12 turbines, running since 2008, make up the state's first wind farm. The whole town drains to the Connecticut River by three routes: Giles Brook flows north to the South Branch of the Sugar River, the Cold River and Dodge Brook drain the west toward Walpole, and the Ashuelot River carries the southeast toward Hinsdale. The town was granted as Number 9, then Dupplin, before taking the name Lempster in 1767.
