Welcome to Plaistow

Plaistow is a Rockingham County border town on the Massachusetts line, with Haverhill, Massachusetts to the south and Kingston, Newton, Atkinson and Hampstead around its other sides. Once part of Haverhill, it became a New Hampshire town in 1749 and is the only town outside the United Kingdom named Plaistow. It is known for its busy NH Route 125 shopping corridor and its Old Home Day. Plaistow real estate spans the village on Main Street and the roads branching off it.

Living in Plaistow, NH

Two roads define Plaistow. NH Route 125, Plaistow Road, carries the town's local businesses and large chain stores between Haverhill and Kingston, and it reaches Interstate 495 about two miles south in Massachusetts. Main Street, NH Route 121A, runs through the village center and the 1895 town hall, heading north through East Hampstead and Sandown toward Chester. NH 108 follows the eastern edge just inside the state line toward Newton and Exeter. Each year Old Home Day brings a parade down Main Street, fireworks at the high school and a carnival on the Town Hall lawn. The Little River drains the town south to the Merrimack, and an unnamed 384-foot summit near the northern end is the high point. The main Boston-to-Portland rail line runs through town, with Amtrak Downeaster stations in Haverhill and Exeter. Timberlane Regional High School and Middle School and Pollard Elementary are all here.
