Welcome to Kensington

Kensington, New Hampshire is a small inland town in Rockingham County, bordered by Exeter, Hampton Falls, Seabrook, South Hampton and East Kingston. Once a parish of Hampton, it was incorporated in 1737 by Governor Jonathan Belcher and named for Baron Kensington, owner of Kensington Palace in London. The town is known for its rolling landscape of glacial drumlins. Kensington NH real estate covers about 12 square miles with almost no lakes or ponds.

Living in Kensington, NH

Sixteen named hills shape Kensington, all drumlins left by glaciers, and the tallest, Indian Ground Hill on the South Hampton line, reaches 305 feet. Open water is nearly absent, only about 0.02 square miles of the town. Most of Kensington drains north to the Exeter River and on through the Piscataqua to the sea. The southeast corner sends its water through the Taylor and Hampton Falls rivers to Hampton Harbor, and the southwest corner drains to the Merrimack, so three watersheds meet in a small area. Exeter lies to the north and Hampton Falls to the east, putting the town between the Exeter area and the coast while keeping an inland, hill-and-field character. Its name is unusual for its era: of the 27 towns Governor Belcher granted, only three received names, and Kensington was one of them.
