Welcome to Northwood

Northwood is a lake town in northern Rockingham County, set apart from Nottingham in 1773 out of a tract once called the North Woods. U.S. Route 4, the line of the old Portsmouth to Concord Turnpike, runs through four historic sections: East Northwood, Northwood Ridge, Northwood Center and Northwood Narrows. With nine lakes and a long run of antique shops, Northwood NH real estate includes both seasonal and year-round homes on and near the water.

Living in Northwood, NH

The turnpike built around 1800 brought taverns for sledge and stage passengers, and at one time about a dozen sawmills operated here, several later replaced by shoe factories that closed by 1920. Today the water is the draw. Bow Lake drains east through the Isinglass River, while Northwood Lake, Pleasant Lake, Jenness Pond, Harvey Lake and Long Pond all drain west to the Suncook River. Meadow Lake, near the center of town, sits at the headwaters of the Lamprey River, and the Bean and North rivers rise on the east side. Saddleback Mountain, at 1,150 feet near the southern border, is the highest point. Coe-Brown Northwood Academy, founded in 1867, is in town, and the Wah-Tut-Ca Scout Reservation is also here.
