Welcome to Salisbury

On the eastern slopes of Mount Kearsarge, Salisbury shares borders with Andover, Franklin, Boscawen, Webster and Warner. The Blackwater River flows south through its western side, widening into The Bay, a lake-like stretch popular for fishing, while streams on the east side run straight to the Merrimack. Nearly 40 square miles of Salisbury NH real estate hold very little open water.

Living in Salisbury, NH

The western boundary of Salisbury climbs the eastern slopes of Mount Kearsarge to 1,910 feet, the town's highest point. Below the mountain, the Blackwater River, a tributary of the Contoocook, runs south through the western part of town, and The Bay, a natural lake-like section of the river, is a popular fishing and recreation spot. The eastern half drains by smaller streams directly to the Merrimack River. Water covers barely half a percent of the town's 39.8 square miles. Salisbury carries a long string of former names: it was granted in 1736 as Baker's Town while still under Massachusetts, regranted in 1749 as Stevenstown after Colonel Ebenezer Stevens of Kingston, also called Gerrishtown and New Salisbury, and incorporated as Salisbury in 1768. Settlement here dates to about 1750.
