Welcome to Mont Vernon

Mont Vernon is a hill town in Hillsborough County, spelled without a "u" since its 1803 charter, when it broke away from neighboring Amherst. NH Route 13 runs through its center between Milford to the south and New Boston to the north, and the town is known for views over the Souhegan Valley. Mont Vernon NH real estate spreads across hills rising to Storey Hill on the northern border, with brooks draining south to the Souhegan River.

Living in Mont Vernon, NH

Mont Vernon's village lines Route 13, where the Town Hall and fire station stand on North Main Street and a general store has operated in the same spot for more than 120 years, apart from a short break. The former academy building, home to the McCollom Institute and later the Stearns School, now holds the police department and town offices. The town-owned Lamson Farm has hiking trails and hosts Lamson Farm Day on the last Saturday in September, and the Mont Vernon Spring Gala follows in late April or early May. Purgatory Brook forms most of the western border and has trails of its own. The Morrissette Trail, opened in 2012, climbs 700 feet from the town's lowest point to its highest, near Storey Hill at 1,015 feet. In the 1890s Mont Vernon was a summer resort with five large hotels, including the Grand Hotel atop Grand Hill.
