Welcome to Pittsfield

The Suncook River drains all of Pittsfield, a Merrimack County town, on its way to the Merrimack. Its main village lies on the river in the west-central part of town, built up around Barnstead Road, Catamount Road, Carroll Street and Depot Street, with Catamount Mountain rising to the southeast. Anyone browsing Pittsfield NH real estate will find a long mill history and a hot air balloon rally held every August since 1981.

Living in Pittsfield, NH

Houses for sale in Pittsfield NH sit in the Suncook River valley, where founder John Cram built grist and sawmills in the late 18th century. The village, centered on Barnstead Road, Catamount Road, Carroll Street and Depot Street, is the town's built-up core, and the Suncook Valley Railroad once ran up the river to Pittsfield. Since 1901, Globe Manufacturing has made protective clothing for firefighters in town. Catamount Mountain, at 1,331 feet southeast of the center, is the highest point, and only about one percent of the town is water. The Suncook Valley Rotary Hot Air Balloon Rally fills the first weekend of August, and in July 2001 the town set a Guinness record when 522 people wore Groucho Marx glasses at once. Pittsfield Elementary School and Pittsfield Middle High School serve the town.
