Living in Milton, NH
Living in Milton means a manufacturing, resort and residential town strung along the Salmon Falls River. The main village sits on the west bank at the outlet of Milton Pond, along Route 125 just north of Route 75, and Milton Mills lies seven miles north by road. Water power drew industry here, and in 1893 Jonas Spaulding opened a leatherboard mill in Milton; his sons Huntley and Rolland later served as governors of New Hampshire. Older landmarks include the Milton Town House of 1808 and the Milton Free Public Library, a Second Empire former schoolhouse built at Milton Mills in 1875. Teneriffe Mountain, at 1,090 feet, is the highest point. Spaulding Turnpike exits 17 and 18 serve the south and north ends of town.
