Copple Crown Mountain, at 1,868 feet on the western border, is the highest point, and the town is drained mainly by the Branch River and Pike Brook. Living in Brookfield, NH

Living in Brookfield means a rural town of hills and brooks along Route 109. Most of the land drains through the Branch River and Pike Brook to the Piscataqua River watershed, while the western edge lies in the Merrimack River watershed and the northern tip in the Saco. Copple Crown Mountain rises on the western border; its summit is in Brookfield, and its southwestern slope holds the highest point in neighboring New Durham and in Strafford County. The town was first named Coleraine and later renamed for Brookfield, Massachusetts. Its fertile ground made it popular with farmers. The Moose Mountains ridge made travel to March town meetings in Middleton difficult, so residents sought to separate, and Brookfield was incorporated in 1794. The Wolfeborough Branch Railroad passed through in 1874.
