Welcome to Nottingham

Nottingham is the Rockingham County home of Pawtuckaway State Park, a 48-square-mile town between Barrington, Lee, Epping, Raymond, Deerfield and Northwood. Incorporated in 1722 and named for the 2nd Earl of Nottingham, it once included what are now Deerfield and Northwood. Nottingham NH real estate is spread across the villages of Nottingham, Nottingham Square, North Nottingham and West Nottingham, among 14 lakes and ponds and the ring of the Pawtuckaway Mountains.

Living in Nottingham, NH

The Pawtuckaway Mountains form a circular ring that geologists call a ring dike complex, and their North Peak, at 995 feet, is the highest point in town. The Pawtuckaway, North and Little rivers drain Nottingham to the Lamprey River, which flows on to Great Bay at Newmarket. The town once ran 17 watermills and sent four generals to the Revolutionary War: Joseph Cilley, Henry Dearborn, Henry Butler and Thomas Bartlett. Nottingham also opened the country's oldest continually operating municipal recycling center in 1974 and was the first town to make recycling mandatory. Two small museums keep its history: the Square Schoolhouse, one of the best-preserved mid-19th century schoolhouses in southern New Hampshire, and the Dame School. Nottingham Elementary School covers kindergarten through grade 8.
