Welcome to Wilton

Wilton is a Hillsborough County town on the Souhegan River, between Milford to the east and Temple to the west, with Lyndeborough, Mason and Greenville around its other sides. Its main village sits near the junction of NH Routes 31 and 101, where Stony Brook meets the Souhegan. Once a water-powered mill town, Wilton is now a rural place of orchards, farms and woodland, and Wilton NH real estate reflects that mix of village and countryside.

Living in Wilton, NH

Chartered in 1735 as part of Salem-Canada and incorporated as Wilton in 1762, the town grew around textile mills on the Souhegan. The brick Souhegan Mills still anchor the town center and have served as an apple packing plant, a dressing mill and a World War II ammunition box factory. Downtown, the Wilton Town Hall Theatre is an art-house cinema in the Town Hall auditorium, and Andy's Summer Playhouse is a summer theatre that draws visitors from around the region. Frye's Measure Mill, a historic mill three miles west of downtown at Davisville Road and Burton Highway, offers tours. Part of the Russell-Abbott State Forest lies in Wilton, along with the Oliver Whiting Homestead on Old County Farm Road. Stony Brook and Blood Brook feed the Souhegan, and the high point, 1,140 feet, is on the slope of Fisk Hill at the western line. The private High Mowing School is in town.
