Welcome to Berlin

Berlin, New Hampshire is the only city in Coos County and the northernmost city in the state, set in the Great North Woods region at the edge of the White Mountains. It sits at the confluence of the Androscoggin and Dead rivers, with the Mahoosuc Range to the southeast. Berlin NH real estate spans a downtown that grew around the river falls and the village of Cascade in the south. NH Route 16 links the city with Gorham and with Milan and Errol.

Living in Berlin, NH

Berlin grew up around the falls of the Androscoggin River, which powered sawmills and later the pulp and paper mills established by 1885; the pulp mill closed in 2006. Cascade is a village in the south part of the city, and Mount Forist rises over its west side. Outdoor life centers on Jericho Mountain State Park, a few miles northwest of downtown, where Jericho Lake has a beach, boat launch and campground and about 75 miles of OHRV trails connect to a larger Coos County network. The city allows ATVs and OHRVs on city streets and hosts the annual Jericho Mountain ATV Festival. In winter, Milan Hill State Park, about ten miles north, has more than 9 miles of groomed cross-country ski trails maintained by the Nansen Ski Club, founded in 1872.
