Welcome to Franklin

At the confluence of the Pemigewasset and Winnipesaukee rivers, which join there to form the Merrimack River, Franklin, New Hampshire is a city in Merrimack County. It includes the village of West Franklin, and U.S. Route 3 and New Hampshire Route 11 together form Central Street, its main street. Franklin grew as a mill town on water power from the falls of the Winnipesaukee River, and Franklin NH real estate still centers on that river city.

Living in Franklin, NH

Living in Franklin means a small mill city at the south end of the Lakes Region, built around three rivers. Downtown has a whitewater park, and Webster Lake lies in the north of the city. The Franklin Falls Dam, built by the Army Corps of Engineers in 1943 for flood control on the Pemigewasset, created the Franklin Falls Reservoir above the city. Daniel Webster was born in a part of Franklin then in Salisbury, and a state historic site off Route 127 preserves his childhood home. The Veterans Memorial ski area is on the 2026/27 Indy Pass. From Central Street, Routes 3 and 11 lead east to Tilton and Laconia; in West Franklin, Route 3 turns south to Concord, Route 11 heads west to Andover and New London, and Route 3A runs north through Hill to Plymouth.
