Welcome to Langdon

Langdon, New Hampshire is a Sullivan County town of about 16 square miles of hills drained by the Cold River and Great Brook. Charlestown lies to the north, Acworth to the east, Alstead to the southeast and Walpole to the southwest. Incorporated in 1787 and named for Governor John Langdon, the town is best known for the Prentiss Bridge, the shortest covered bridge in the state.

Living in Langdon, NH

The Prentiss Bridge carries a road across Great Brook on a lattice truss span only 34 feet 6 inches long. Built in 1874, it is the shortest covered bridge in New Hampshire and the town's best-known landmark. Great Brook is a tributary of the Cold River, and together the two streams drain the town into the Connecticut River watershed. Water covers less than half of one percent of Langdon, so the town is nearly all land rather than lakes. Holden Hill, at 1,348 feet, is the highest point. Seth Walker made the first settlement in 1773, and the town was incorporated on January 11, 1787. With Charlestown, Acworth, Alstead and Walpole as neighbors, Langdon sits in the rolling country between the Cold River valley and the Connecticut.
