Welcome to Brookline

Brookline is a Hillsborough County town on New Hampshire's southern border, about 12 miles west of Nashua, with Pepperell and Townsend, Massachusetts, just over the line. NH Routes 13 and 130 cross the town, and the Nissitissit River rises at Potanipo Pond near the center. Brookline is known for the Talbot-Taylor Wildlife Sanctuary, the Brookline Covered Bridge and the sculpture park on Potanipo Hill, and Brookline NH real estate sits among those woods and waters.

Living in Brookline, NH

Granted in 1769 as Raby, the town was renamed Brookline in 1798 at the suggestion of a resident from Brookline, Massachusetts. It was known across southern New Hampshire for lumber, charcoal and casks, and the Boston and Maine Railroad arrived in 1892; much of the old rail bed is now Route 13, and the former station is a private home. Potanipo Pond sits half a mile west of the town center, and its outlet starts the Nissitissit River, a 10-mile trout stream that flows to the Nashua River in Pepperell. Potanipo Hill, southwest of the center, held a ski area from 1935 to 1984 and is now home to the Andres Institute of Art. Birch Hill, at 810 feet, is the high point. Richard Maghakian Memorial School and Captain Samuel Douglass Academy serve the younger grades, with a middle and high school shared with Hollis.
