Welcome to Litchfield

Facing Merrimack across the river, Litchfield is a Hillsborough County town on the Merrimack's east bank, with Manchester to the north, Hudson to the south and Londonderry to the east. Long farmland, it has no central village or large commercial district, and its town hall sits at the geographic center at Hillcrest Road and Albuquerque Avenue. Homes for sale in Litchfield NH are spread along Route 3A beside the river and the roads that cross the town's 15 square miles.

Living in Litchfield, NH

Route 3A, the Charles Bancroft Highway, follows the Merrimack River the length of town from Hudson to Manchester, and Hillcrest Road is the main east-west road toward Londonderry. There is no bridge to Merrimack across the river, so the nearest crossings are between Nashua and Hudson to the south and between Manchester and Bedford to the north. Litchfield State Forest, near the center of town, holds Rocky Hill, the highest point at 357 feet. Parker Park keeps a stretch of rail trail and an old trolley bridge from the early 1900s trolley line. In the river, the Naticook Islands, also called Reed's Islands, lie at the Merrimack town line. Archaeologists have found more than 30 Native American sites along Litchfield's riverbank. The town's three public schools are Griffin Memorial School, Litchfield Middle School and Campbell High School, and Manchester-Boston Regional Airport sits just beyond the northern border.
