Welcome to Lyme

Lyme is a Connecticut River town in Grafton County, about ten miles north of Hanover, with Vermont across the river. NH Route 10, the Dartmouth College Highway, runs through the western half of town, where most homes are, while the eastern half is largely forest crossed by the Appalachian Trail. Shoppers browsing Lyme NH real estate often focus on the historic village around Lyme Common, Lyme Center near the Dartmouth Skiway, and land near its four great ponds.

Living in Lyme, NH

Lyme Common, about a mile and a half east of the river, is ringed by houses and public buildings from the late 1700s to the early 1900s. The Lyme Inn, built in 1809, once served stagecoaches on the old Boston Turnpike from Montreal, and behind the neighboring 1815 meetinghouse stands a row of 27 horse sheds from 1810, the longest such line in New England. To the east, the Dartmouth Skiway sits near Lyme Center, with the east-facing cliff of Holts Ledge as part of the ski area. The Appalachian Trail crosses Holts Ledge and Smarts Mountain, whose 3,238-foot summit and 1915 fire tower are the town's high point. Post Pond, Pout Pond, Trout Pond and Reservoir Pond are the four great ponds, and the Chaffee Natural Conservation Area is also in town.
