Living in Stratford, NH

Stratford stretches across nearly 80 square miles, almost all of it land, reaching east from the Connecticut River valley to the Odell line. The Janice Peaslee Bridge crosses the river to Maidstone, Vermont, and U.S. Route 3 links the villages of North Stratford, Stratford Hollow and Beatties with Colebrook to the north and Groveton to the south. The railroad that runs beside the highway is the St. Lawrence and Atlantic, which meets a New Hampshire and Vermont Railroad line in neighboring Groveton. To the east, Stratford borders the unincorporated place of Odell, and Stark lies to the southeast. The land rises to Sugarloaf, whose 3,700-foot summit is the town's highest point. Stratford's charter history is short: it was first granted in 1762 under the name Woodbury and was regranted as Stratford in 1773.
