Living in Hill, NH

Living in Hill means a town shaped by the Pemigewasset River and the Franklin Falls flood-control project. The river forms the eastern boundary, its tributary the Smith River forms two stretches of the northern line, and the southwestern corner drains by way of Mountain Brook to the Blackwater River in Andover. When the Franklin Falls Dam was built on the Pemigewasset, the village of Hill was moved in 1941. Dickinson Hill, at about 1,910 feet, is the town's highest point, and William Thomas State Forest lies within town. Route 3A connects Hill with Franklin to the south and Plymouth to the north. First granted as New Chester in 1753, the town took the name Hill in 1837 to honor Isaac Hill, governor of New Hampshire from 1836 to 1839.
