Welcome to Greenville
Greenville is one of New Hampshire's smallest and newest towns, split off from Mason in 1872 and set at the High Falls of the Souhegan River in western Hillsborough County. Its village grew at the meeting of NH Routes 31, 45 and 123, with Wilton to the north and New Ipswich to the west. Greenville NH real estate centers on a compact mill village of brick factory buildings and Queen Anne style houses, surrounded by wooded hills toward Barrett Hill.
Living in Greenville, NH
The Souhegan River runs through the town center, and its falls made Greenville a manufacturing place from the start. The Columbian Manufacturing Company, founded in 1826 to make textiles here and in New Ipswich, is long gone, but its brick mill buildings still dominate the village and now hold other businesses and storage, with Queen Anne style houses lining the side streets. The old Boston and Maine railroad depot still stands as a village landmark. Pleasant Street is the main way into downtown from Route 31, Route 123 turns south toward New Ipswich, and Route 45 begins on Main Street and heads northwest to Temple. The town covers only about 6.9 square miles. Barrett Hill, near the western line at 1,270 feet, is the highest point, and the southern half of town drains through Walker Brook and Mason Brook toward the Squannacook River in Massachusetts.
