Welcome to Brentwood

Brentwood is the county seat of Rockingham County, a nearly square town whose southeastern line follows the Exeter River. Route 101 runs roughly along its northern boundary and Calef Road, NH Route 125, is its main north-south road. Set off from Exeter in 1742 and named for Brentwood in Essex, it is now mostly residential, with county offices, courts and the Rockingham County Complex in town. Brentwood NH real estate spreads along Middle Road, North Road and South Road.

Living in Brentwood, NH

Middle Road (NH 111A) bisects Brentwood east to west, with North Road and South Road running parallel and Calef Road carrying most of the town's retail. The Rockingham County Complex on North Road, the only county-owned road, began in 1916 as the county farm and now holds administrative offices, a nursing home and the jail; hay is the only crop left. County offices and courts moved to a former industrial headquarters off Calef Road in 1997, making Brentwood the county seat. An industrial zone lies in the northeast along Pine Road, shared with Exeter, and part of New England Dragway is in town. The Exeter River and its tributary Dudley Brook drain Brentwood, the Piscassic River crosses the northwest corner, and Great Hill in the southeast reaches 275 feet. The first sawmill went up in 1652 at a waterfall on the Exeter River. Swasey Elementary serves younger grades, with older students in SAU 16 regional schools.
