Welcome to Chatham

Chatham, New Hampshire is a mountain town in northern Carroll County along the Maine border, and all of it except the southeastern corner lies within the White Mountain National Forest. South Baldface, at 3,547 feet, is the highest summit, and Kearsarge North rises in the southwest. Route 113 enters from Maine at North Chatham. Chatham NH real estate sits within this landscape of national forest trails, ponds and the Cold River campgrounds.

Living in Chatham, NH

Most of Chatham is national forest land, crossed east to west by Robbins Ridge, with Sable Mountain at 3,519 feet in the west and South Baldface in the northwest. Kearsarge North, once topped by a summit house, now has a lookout tower reached by hiking trail, as is Baldface. Upper Kimball Pond is in the southeast and Basin Pond in the northeast, and the Cold River national forest campgrounds are in town. Mountains block a direct road west, so reaching Jackson usually means driving through Maine on Route 113 to the Fryeburg area and back through Conway. Route 113 runs north through North Chatham before curving back into Maine through Evans Notch toward Gilead and U.S. Route 2, and in winter North Chatham is reachable from other New Hampshire towns only by way of Maine. The whole town drains to the Saco River.
