Welcome to Bath
Bath, New Hampshire is a northern Grafton County town on the Connecticut River, crossed by U.S. Route 302 and NH Route 112 and drained by the Ammonoosuc and Wild Ammonoosuc rivers. It is noted for its historic architecture, including the 1824 Brick Store and three covered bridges, and serves as a commuter town for Littleton. Bath NH real estate includes the main village, the Upper Village, the village of Swiftwater on Route 112 and part of the Mountain Lakes district.
Living in Bath, NH
Bath sat at the head of navigation on the Connecticut River and grew into a busy mill village powered by the Ammonoosuc and Wild Ammonoosuc. When the regional rail junction moved to Woodsville in neighboring Haverhill, commerce followed, and that quiet stretch preserved much of the village's Federal and Greek Revival architecture. The Brick Store, designed by Alexander Parris, anchored the town center until 2020, and the Upper Village has a cluster of Federal houses drawn from Asher Benjamin's handbook designs. The Bath Covered Bridge, the Haverhill-Bath Covered Bridge and the Swiftwater Covered Bridge are all on the National Register, as are the Goodall-Woods Law Office and the Jeremiah Hutchins Tavern. Gardner Mountain's three knobs, near the town's northern tip, are its highest ground, and Bath marks the northern end of glacial Lake Hitchcock.
