Welcome to Errol

Errol is a Coos County town north of the White Mountains, centered where NH Route 16 meets NH Route 26. It is the birthplace of the Androscoggin River, which forms where the Magalloway River joins the outlet of Umbagog Lake, and water covers about 13 percent of the town. Errol NH real estate sits close to Maine, with Upton and North Oxford across the line, Dummer and Cambridge to the south, and Millsfield and Dixville to the west.

Living in Errol, NH

Errol's roads trace its early history. Proprietors pushed for a connecting road from Conway, which became today's Route 16, and in 1804 a winter trade route was cut east to Andover, Maine, and on to Portland along what is now Route 26. Route 16 still runs north toward Wentworth Location and south through Dummer and Milan to Berlin, while Route 26 heads west through Dixville Notch to Colebrook and east into Maine by way of Cambridge. Lumbering was long the chief work in these forests. Today the town is a base for the outdoors: Umbagog Lake State Park, Mollidgewock State Park and Androscoggin Wayside Park are all here, along with the L. L. Cote Sports Center. Errol Airport has a single unpaved runway. The whole town lies in the Androscoggin watershed, and students in grades 7 to 12 attend Berlin Middle High School.
