Welcome to Fitzwilliam

Fitzwilliam is a Cheshire County town on the Massachusetts border, between Troy, Jaffrey, Rindge and Richmond, with Winchendon and Royalston, Massachusetts, to the south. State Routes 12 and 119 serve it. The town is known for Rhododendron State Park, a 16-acre grove of native rhododendrons that bloom in mid-July, and for a historic common that anchors much of the Fitzwilliam NH real estate people come looking for.

Living in Fitzwilliam, NH

The center of town is the Fitzwilliam common, which, together with twelve antique houses around it, is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. In the western part of town rises Little Monadnock Mountain, at 1,883 feet the highest point in Fitzwilliam; the long-distance Metacomet-Monadnock Trail crosses its summit, and a shorter side trail climbs from Rhododendron State Park. The South Branch of the Ashuelot River drains the town from its source at Bowker Pond, and all of Fitzwilliam lies in the Connecticut River watershed. Granite has deep roots here: the town claims one of the oldest granite quarries in New Hampshire, and woodworking and yarn-making were other early industries. The railroad arrived in 1848. Route 12 and Route 119 are the main roads through town.
