Welcome to Fremont

Fremont is a Rockingham County town on the Exeter River, bordered by Epping, Brentwood, Kingston, Danville, Sandown, Chester and Raymond. Settled in the 1720s as part of Exeter and granted in 1764 as Poplin, it took its present name in 1854 in honor of General John C. Fremont. NH Route 107 follows Main Street through the center and the Rockingham Recreational Trail crosses town. Fremont NH real estate surrounds a village known for its 1800 meeting house and long brick and barrel-making history.

Living in Fremont, NH

The Fremont Meeting House, also called the Poplin Meeting House, was built in 1800 and is one of only two 18th-century twin-porch meeting houses in New England; it has been on the National Register since 1993. The 1911 Fremont Town Hall is the only tin-sided town hall in New Hampshire, and the 1820 Country Market and Deli ranks among the oldest country stores in the state. Fremont once had the largest brickyard in New Hampshire, and the Spaulding and Frost Cooperage downtown, founded in 1874, is one of the oldest wooden barrel makers still operating in the country. In 1734 residents drove off a royal surveyor in the Mast Tree Riot over the town's prized white pines. The Exeter River drains nearly all of Fremont, with the Piscassic River rising in the north, and NH 111A joins Route 107 on Main Street.
