Welcome to Harrisville

Harrisville is a well-preserved 19th-century mill town in Cheshire County's Monadnock region, formed in 1870 from land ceded by Marlborough, Dublin, Hancock, Nelson and Roxbury. Beyond the town center it includes the villages of Chesham and Eastview. Its red brick Cheshire Mills, reflected in Harrisville Pond and the mill canal, anchor a National Historic Landmark district, and Harrisville NH real estate takes in that village as well as the rural district toward Dublin.

Living in Harrisville, NH

Harrisville claims to be the only early 19th-century industrial community to survive in its original form. A sawmill and gristmill known as Twitchell's Mills stood here in 1774, and the Manchester and Keene Railroad, opened in 1878, helped the town prosper making textiles. Milan Harris's stone and brick Cheshire Mills ran until 1970 and look much as they did in the mid-1800s; they are now protected within the Harrisville Historic District, which covers the center of town. The Harrisville Rural District takes in the southern part of town near the Dublin border. A woolen mill has operated in Harrisville since 1794, and the Harrisville General Store, opened in 1838, is part of the historic district. Cobb Hill, at 1,909 feet, is the highest point, and water covers nearly 8 percent of the town. Each summer the town holds Old Home Days.
