Welcome to Epping

Epping sits at the crossroads of NH Route 101 and NH Route 125 in Rockingham County, with Lee, Newmarket, Newfields, Exeter, Brentwood, Fremont, Raymond and Nottingham around it. Chartered in 1741 out of Exeter and named for Epping in England, it has grown into a retail center for neighboring towns while keeping a traditional village on Main Street and Route 27. Epping NH real estate also takes in West Epping and the old East Epping area around Camp Hedding.

Living in Epping, NH

Two very different parts of Epping sit side by side. Chain stores, strip malls and big-box retail gathered near Route 101 and Route 125 after 101 became an expressway in the mid-1990s, while the older center along Main Street and Route 27, the old road between Exeter and Hooksett, keeps its traditional architecture. West Epping lies on Route 27 near the Raymond line. The Lamprey and Piscassic rivers drain the town, and an annual canoe race runs down the Lamprey on the last weekend of April. Old rail beds now form the Rockingham Recreational Trail. New England Dragway, New England's only quarter-mile track, and the Star Speedway stock-car oval bring racing fans, and Camp Hedding holds an olde time fair each August. The Epping Historical Society Museum, Harvey-Mitchell Memorial Library and Leddy Center for the Performing Arts are local landmarks. Kennard Hill, at 472 feet, is the high point.
