Welcome to Croydon

Croydon, New Hampshire is a forested Sullivan County town named for the London suburb, with Grantham, Springfield, Sunapee, Newport, Cornish and Plainfield on its borders. The North Branch Sugar River runs south through its east-central part, and Croydon Peak rises to 2,760 feet near the northwest corner. Corbin Park, a vast private game reserve, reaches across the town, and homes for sale in Croydon, NH share this landscape of river valley, hills and Lake Coniston.

Living in Croydon, NH

Croydon inspired Winston Churchill's 1906 bestseller Coniston, and the name lives on in the Coniston General Store, YMCA Camp Coniston and Lake Coniston in the eastern part of town. The novel's political boss, Jethro Bass, was based on Croydon's own Ruel Durkee, a powerful 19th-century figure in state politics. Corbin Park, one of the largest private game reserves in New England, covers about 24,000 fenced acres of woods and mountains that extend into neighboring towns, and it holds bison, European boar and elk. Croydon Peak, near the northwestern corner, is the highest point at 2,760 feet. The North Branch Sugar River flows south through the east-central part of town toward Newport, and all of Croydon lies in the Connecticut River watershed. Water covers about two percent of the town, and the rest is largely hills and forest.
