Welcome to East Kingston

East Kingston is a ten-square-mile Rockingham County town that broke away from Kingston in 1738, when residents of Kingston East Parish won their own charter from Governor Jonathan Belcher. It borders Exeter, Kensington, South Hampton, Newton and Kingston. The town grew up around a saw and grist mill at Trickling Falls on the edge of Powwow Pond, and East Kingston NH real estate today sits on the same farm country that once made the town prosper.

Living in East Kingston, NH

Residents petitioned for a separate town in the 1730s because Kingston's school and meeting house were too far away. Early East Kingston prospered on good farm soil, and before refrigeration, cutting ice on the Powwow River was a thriving winter business. The New England Brick Company was also once a principal industry here. The town straddles two watersheds: the southern half drains to the Powwow River and on to the Merrimack, while the northern half drains through Great Brook to the Exeter River, Great Bay and the Atlantic. Only a small corner of the 285-acre Powwow Pond lies inside the town line, so open water covers very little of East Kingston. Morse Hill, at 315 feet, is the highest point in town, and the neighbors are Exeter to the northeast, Kensington to the east, South Hampton to the south, Newton to the southwest and Kingston to the west.
