Its central village grew at a bridge crossing of the river, and the town also includes South Hooksett. Living in Hooksett, NH

Rocky ledges flank the Merrimack in Hooksett, and the falls once powered ferries, lumber mills and a brickworks; the lottery-funded Hooksett Canal of 1794 served the Amoskeag mills downstream. Interstate 93 has three Hooksett interchanges and a junction with I-293, and a state rest area and welcome center sits near the Bow line. NH 3A follows the west bank as West River Road, NH 28 and US 3 share Hooksett Road and the Daniel Webster Highway, NH 27 heads east on Whitehall Road toward Candia, and NH 28A follows Mammoth Road. Quimby Mountain, at 902 feet near the western border, is the highest point. Southern New Hampshire University lies partly in Hooksett near the site of Martins Ferry, the earliest settlement. Robie's Country Store has long been a stop for candidates during the New Hampshire primary.
