Welcome to Cornish

Cornish faces Windsor, Vermont, across the Connecticut River, with Plainfield to the north, Croydon to the east and Claremont to the south. It is famous for four covered bridges, among them the Cornish-Windsor Covered Bridge, and for the Cornish Art Colony that grew around sculptor Augustus Saint-Gaudens after 1885. Routes 12A and 120 link it to Claremont and Lebanon. Homes for sale in Cornish, NH are scattered among a string of small villages between the river and Croydon Mountain.

Living in Cornish, NH

Cornish is a town of small villages: Cornish Center, Cornish Flat, Cornish City, Cornish Mills, South Cornish, Balloch and Squag City. Saint-Gaudens National Historical Park is in town, and Cornish remained a summer haunt for artists and writers, including Maxfield Parrish; author J. D. Salinger lived here from the 1950s until 2010. The Cornish-Windsor Covered Bridge, built in 1866, is the longest two-span covered bridge in the world, and the Blow-Me-Down, Dingleton Hill and Kenyon bridges complete the set of four. The Cornish Fair is held each August. Blow-me-down Brook, Mill Brook and Walker Brook run to the Connecticut, and Redwater Brook flows south to the Sugar River. The Croydon Mountain ridge follows the eastern line, topping out at 2,323 feet, and the town's eastern part lies within the private Blue Mountain Forest Association game preserve, known as Corbin Park.
