Welcome to Pittsburg

Pittsburg is New Hampshire's northernmost town and the largest town by area in New England, covering about 291 square miles of Coos County, roughly 3 percent of the state. It borders Quebec to the west and north, Maine to the east, a sliver of Vermont to the southwest and Clarksville to the south. Pittsburg NH real estate spreads around the Connecticut Lakes, Back Lake and Lake Francis, with U.S. Route 3 as the one major highway.

Living in Pittsburg, NH

The four Connecticut Lakes, the source of the Connecticut River, lie within Pittsburg, along with Back Lake, part of Lake Francis and many smaller ponds. The lakes are stocked each year, and two stretches of the Connecticut, including the Trophy Stretch, are fly fishing only. Lake Francis State Park offers lakeside camping, fishing and canoeing, and Deer Mountain Campground sits on the river. In winter, state-funded and club-maintained snowmobile trails connect Pittsburg with the rest of the state, Maine, Vermont and the border crossing, and many of the same trails carry ATVs in summer. U.S. Route 3 ends at the Pittsburg-Chartierville crossing, New Hampshire's only Canadian border crossing. Stub Hill, at 3,627 feet, is the high point, and Mount Magalloway has a hiking trail. The 1897 Indian Stream Schoolhouse on Tabor Road is on the National Register.
