Welcome to Greenfield
Greenfield is a Hillsborough County town in the Monadnock hills of southern New Hampshire, bordered by Bennington, Francestown, Lyndeborough, Temple, Peterborough and Hancock. It is home to Greenfield State Park, part of the Wapack Trail and North Pack Monadnock, the northern end of the Wapack Range. Formed in 1791 and named for its level, fertile ground, Greenfield offers Greenfield NH real estate set among state parkland, brooks and mountain slopes.
Living in Greenfield, NH
The first settlers, the Lynde family, arrived in 1753 in what was then called Lyndeborough Addition, and residents separated by the hills from the older town's center petitioned for their own town in 1791. North Pack Monadnock, at 2,276 feet, rises in the far south of town as the highest point and the northernmost summit of the Wapack Range, which the Wapack Trail follows. The town center and western Greenfield drain to the Contoocook River and Otter Brook, and the Contoocook passes through Powder Mill Pond on the northwestern border. Stony Brook drains the southeast toward the Souhegan in Wilton, and Rand Brook drains the northeast. Greenfield State Park is in town, and the Crotched Mountain Rehabilitation Center has operated on Crotched Mountain since 1953. Greenfield is also home to the Yankee Siege, a trebuchet that has competed in pumpkin-throwing contests.
