Living in Derry, NH

Derry was formed in 1827 from the eastern part of Londonderry, and the first potato planted in the United States was sown on its common field in 1719. Pinkerton Academy, founded in 1814, still operates and serves as the high school for Derry and several neighboring towns. The Robert Frost Farm is a National Historic Landmark and state park open for tours and poetry readings from spring through fall, and Taylor Mill State Historic Site and the Derry Historical Society and Museum are also in town. The old Boston and Maine branch line is now the Rockingham Recreational Trail, a rail trail running to Fremont. Beaver Brook drains the town toward the Merrimack, Island Pond lies on the southeastern border, and Warner Hill, at 605 feet, offers a view of the Boston skyline on a clear day.
