Welcome to Sandown

Sandown is a small Rockingham County town bordered by Fremont, Danville, Hampstead, Derry and Chester. It was set off from Kingston in 1756 and named after Sandown on the Isle of Wight. The town is best known for the Sandown Meeting House of 1774 and for a handful of ponds that drain in two directions. Sandown NH real estate is spread along NH 121A, the Main Street through the town center, and the back roads off it.

Living in Sandown, NH

Two state roads serve Sandown. NH 121A is the main route through the center, running locally as Main Street from Chester in the west toward the village of East Hampstead in the southeast, while NH 121 clips the far southwestern corner. The Exeter River drains most of town into the Great Bay and Piscataqua watershed, fed by Phillips Pond, south of the center, and the smaller Showell Pond. Angle Pond in the southeastern corner and Cub Pond on the eastern border drain the other way, toward the Powwow River and the Merrimack. Hoyt Hill, near the southwest corner, is the high point at 505 feet. The Sandown Meeting House, built in 1774 by the town's first minister, the Reverend Josiah Cotton, has an 11-foot pulpit and marble columns under its gallery and is a well-known example of early New England church architecture. Younger students attend schools in Sandown and older ones go to Timberlane Regional in Plaistow.
