Welcome to Bedford

Bedford, New Hampshire is a Hillsborough County town on the southwest side of Manchester, the state's largest city, and it lies entirely within the Merrimack River watershed. The Everett Turnpike crosses it north to south and Route 101 east to west, meeting at the interchange where Interstate 293 turns. Bedford NH real estate draws on that location, with Manchester-Boston Regional Airport one town away and a landscape that climbs to Holbrook Hill in the northwest.

Living in Bedford, NH

Bedford was settled in the 1730s, and a monument dated 1737 on Station Road marks the first settlement by Robert and James Walker. The town was incorporated in 1750 and named for John Russell, 4th Duke of Bedford. It grew quickly after 1950 into one of the larger municipalities in the state. The Merrimack River runs along the town, and Sebbins Pond, linked to nearby ponds by Sebbins Brook, is its largest body of water besides the river. In the northwest, the town-owned Pulpit Rock Conservation Area on New Boston Road protects a rock formation once called the Devil's Pulpit, and Holbrook Hill rises to 845 feet. U.S. Route 3 also passes through town, and part of the Saint Anselm College grounds, including some athletic fields, lies in Bedford.
